* Justice served for survivors of rape *
Kusimudzana assisted five women who were raped in reporting their cases to the police. Thus far, two perpetrators have been convicted and sentenced to 16 and 23 years in prison. Justice has been served for these women, and the result of these prosecutions has instilled greater confidence in the criminal justice system to protect women and create an environment where women who have experienced violence can report these cases.

* Ensuring school is an option for young mothers *
FOCESE supports teenage school dropouts and mothers to return to school, by supporting them with school related materials and fees as well as sensitising the community and teachers on the importance of creating an enabling environment for teen mothers to complete their education. This two pronged approach goes beyond just ensuring the reentry of teen mothers to school, but also enabling them to stay in school.

Storytelling workshops and performances in Cairo and Tanta create a safe space for Egyptian women to share their personal experiences of violence, harassment, and discrimination. This project encourages young Egyptians to speak up on social issues using creative workshops and performance methods. The project visibillizes the unheard stories of youth, increasing awareness of their lived experiences, and highlighting their perspectives in the national dialogue throughout Egypt’s changing society.

* Creating space for girls *
A 3-day feminist workshop called “Girls Space Camp” was organized for 18 girls aged 12-17 years old. This camp was organized in response to the lack of space for young girls in Lviv and to create a supportive environment. It sparked a collective movement to continue to claim space for young women in their community: since then, the girls have met 5 more times - discussing various self-identified issues they face in their community.

Led by young women who are daughters of sex workers, Semilas de Libertad held events to highlight the lack of recognition of the human rights of sex workers and their children. Protests were organized against the new law which criminalises abortion with a jail penalty of 40 to 50 years.

* Let’s talk about sex baby, let’s talk about you and me *
The HolaAfrica website challenges perceptions and norms on African queer women’s experiences beyond and within the LGBTQI community. Queer women across the continent and within the diaspora contribute audio, visual, and written material that produce knowledge, awareness, and activism. A Safe Sex and Pleasure manual was published after a series of workshops to collect the concerns, issues and interests of women. The manual focuses on pleasure to disrupt norms on the lack of discussion on women’s sexual pleasure and to challenge the portrayal of sex between women from the male gaze.

Working with women from political parties to support them to run for office, Hashtag Generation held workshops on political communication, electoral mapping, and basics of constitutional law and challenging gender stereotypes, particularly those that influence women’s role in decision-making. This training equipped women with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for running successful campaigns and improved their chances for entry into formal decision making spaces.

The group organized public protests demanding greater access to justice for transgender persons. This was largely in response to the refusal of entry of a transgender person into the court. In addition to increasing visibility towards this incident, their protests have called for the recognition of the human rights of transgender persons as well as the removal of all cases involving transgender persons from that particular magistrate given the displaced prejudice and trans-phobia.

Strategic Advocacy for Human Rights (SAHR)

* Protecting laws that protect women *
SAHR’s lawyers support lawyers globally. They train, mentor and co-counsel on strategic cases which impact the most fundamental rights and holds the State accountable. In Afghanistan, SAHR equipped lawyers with legal analysis to preserve the law on elimination of violence against women as a standalone law. They supported lawyers’ submissions to civil society, Ministry of Justice and His Excellency President Ashraf Ghani. Late 2017, the President himself ordered that the law on violence against women be removed from the Penal Code altogether, which was an instrumental win for lawyers who had fought hard for it, amidst threats to revoke the law. SAHR’s lawyers are deeply committed to supporting the work of some of the best lawyers in Afghanistan. We are fighting for women’s rights to a fair trial, to justice, protection and compensation. We are also fighting to hold the State accountable for violations of women’s human rights.

The girl-led group held two meetings with legislators and civil society members to encourage legislators to ensure that the child marriage bill is comprehensive in protecting the rights of girls. Following this, a member of the provincial assembly raised the group’s concerns in parliament. Their efforts have not only amplified the concerns of girls across the nation, they have also led to increased political will to ensure that national legislation protects girls and young women from forced marriage.

* Guaranteeing reproductive justice *
Sensitisation meetings with health care providers, medical students and other civil society and feminist organisations were held to ensure that the practices of health care providers encourage rather than discourage women to seek reproductive health services. In addition to this, the group publicised the case of a health center in Morón that was encouraging people to report women who were having abortions, creating an environment of fear and intimidation. Due to public outcry, the municipality appointed a coordinator for a program focused on sexual-health and responsible procreation, and restocked misoprostol supplies (safe abortion medication) at primary-care health centers (which had been halted with the change of the municipal government).
